Blogging in Our Home -- by Randy

Those of you who poke around on a lot of blogs know about guest blogging. I'm excited to say that Jen is letting me be a guest blogger on Hazelnut Eyes this week, which makes me feel like something of a celebrity.

I couldn't say exactly how long Jen has had this blog up and running, but I know it's long enough for it to have become a meaningful part of our lives. It has helped her get back in touch with long lost friends, and it has also given her a wonderful space to express herself--never easy for a busy mom, wife, and teacher. What surprises me most about the blog is that I learn so much about Jennifer and how she sees the world by reading it. Even when she's writing about things that I was there to see--funny things the kids did, places we went, etc.--they're somehow different when she writes about them here. And of course it's not that what she writes is untrue. It's just that the blog gives her a chance to reflect about what happens to her and to capture the details that matter most. I wonder: Do other people who share their significant other with a blog have the same experience?

So let me make a confession: Hazelnut Eyes is my favorite thing to read on the internet, not merely because it has cute pictures of my kids--although I love that!--but because it teaches me so much about the woman I love.

I have a few posts that I'll be putting up this week, including a dispatch or two about what it's been like to attend the inaugural celebration, goofy things the kids are doing these days, and some thoughts I've had about blogging and the DIY movement.

Hope you enjoy!
