DC Adventure

Last weekend I was itching to get into the city and explore some new places. Danny loves the Natural History museum, so I get tired of going there. Randy and I decided to go to the Hirshhorn contemporary art museum. I love modern art, so this was very special for me. Danny hadn't been to an art museum since he could be carried in a baby sling.

We had an absolute blast! Danny loved looking at their light exhibit, which projected images of light onto the walls (including 3 moving images of an elephant that took up the whole room). He thought the blue loaf of bread was pretty interesting. The neon painting of the cross-dresser in clownish makeup was pretty frightening for him though, and was discussed quite a bit that day! We played down the cross-dressing, and explained that it probably scared him because there was a lot of makeup that made him look like a clown. Some things just don't need to be explained to a three-year-old! I absolutely loved going to an art museum again, and I was so happy to share it with Danny.

On the recommendation of some friends, we took a walk to the National American Indian Museum for lunch. We heard that they had a great cafeteria. I was delighted with the choices that they had. Of course the prices weren't the best (after all, it is a museum), but we found some great food. I'd rather spend money on good food than bad food! Our favorite dish was carrot persimmon soup. Even Annelise liked it! Next time I want to try the tamale or the vegetable enchilada. I would highly recommend this museum cafeteria to anyone traveling to DC to do some sightseeing (we also like the Natural History museum's food)!
